Interview topic: Video games
Interviewee: Maisie
Did I ask enough questions? Did I include enough variety of questions?
I feel that I did ask a lot of questions, and I used a different variety of questions. I started off by asking Maisie what type of games console she played on, and she replied with that she played on a gaming computer. I feel that this question was a direct question, because she can only really give me between three different answers and it’s not really very open. I then asked her what type of games she played, and she replied with mainly multi-player games and RPGs (Role Playing Games). I asked her why she played these types of games, and she told me she likes these games because they are fun and they allow her to be social without going outside. I think these are both suggestive questions because they lean towards the answer of the question I’ve asked her, and it allows her to give me some good and detailed answers.
Did I structure my interview well?
I think I did structure my interview well, as my questions of asking her which games console she plays can really set up the tone for the rest of the interview. As this question was able to set Maisie to give me good answers, and it set me up to ask some more questions regarding what kind of video games she plays. I kept up the middle of the interview by asking Maisie if she’d ever heard of a game called ‘Rocket League’, and she replied with that she had heard of that game. This set me up for the next question so I could ask her about why she liked Rocket League and why she played it. I brought the interview to an end by asking Maisie if there was any games she was looking forward in the future, and she told me that she was looking forward to ‘Guitar Hero Live’. I ended by thanking Maisie for her time and by saying goodbye. I feel that it’s useful to have a well balance structure in an interview, because then you can make the interviewee feel comfortable and they can answer the questions in a better and more detailed way.
What grade would I give my interview?
I would give my interview a merit grade, because it was well structured and I had a good variety of questions. I wouldn’t give my interview a distinction grade because halfway through the interview, I stuttered and forgot the question that I wanted to ask. Also, Maisie didn’t answer some of the questions with much detail, and as a result the interview finished quicker than I expected it to.
Do I and the interviewee have a good rapport?
I think that I and the interviewee have built a good rapport, as we seemed to get on well and she didn’t seem to feel uncomfortable at all. I can tell this because Maisie was able to answer all the questions I put towards her in a good and detailed way, and she was nodding after every question I asked which showed that she understood the questions I was asking.
